A series of outdoor parties in the heart of our city

6th March

Jeremy Underground (FRA)

Born in 1986 in a Parisian suburb, Jeremy is a passionate record collector and music lover who’s collection and knowledge of deep house surpasses his years of collecting it.

Falling madly in love with Deep House in 1997 thanks to Radio Nova in Paris, he spent his formative teenage years in record shops with a sole idea in mind: unearthing all the hidden treasures of House music, leaving no stone unturned. Then, later on getting into the same process with other musical styles such as Jazz, Soul, Funk…

Jeremy started “My Love Is Underground” in 2010, a vinyl-only label dedicated to his first love: the authentic New York/New Jersey house sound. His mission was to bring these warm vibes back and showcase the spirit of this golden era in house. Bringing up 5 years in the game in 2015, the label will celebrate with a run of special parties that will bring in the next stage in MLIU’s evolution.

Regarded as a fine selector with a strong musical identity, Jeremy now carries his heavy bag of records across the globe, spreading his love for underground music. The MLIU label parties are fast becoming the talk of any city that hosts them, with music lovers traveling from country to country to experience the MLIU vibe.

His honesty and dedication towards music has rocket launched him to the world of international DJing, with the now extremely rare feature of being a DJ only and not a Producer/DJ. The label has gone from strength to strength, including a landmark debut compilation in 2014, the stunning “My Love Is Underground” 3xLP featuring Jeremy’s hand picked selection of rare & out of press House jams from years gone by. A real defining moment in his burgeoning career, it was ranked by Resident Advisor #1 best compilation of the year, winning praise from DJ’s and collectors alike for the depth and raw quality of the selection. His sets share similar class, burning up dance floors wherever he goes & you can be sure that the flag for ‘hard core deep house’ will be flying high for years to come.

András

Peel back the leaves and discover Andras Fox, a Melbourne producer making tactile and imperfect electronic music. Inspired by primitive percussion, simple melodies and home recording, Andras combines elements of house music and ethno-groove in a distinctly antipodean way.

Based around drum machine rhythms and new age synths, his original tape recordings are simultaneously contemporary in sound and difficult to carbon date, slipping comfortably between 80s Library Music, Chicago House and g-Funk.

After sold-out solo releases, Andras teamed up with vocalist Oscar Key Sung for a collaborative LP that went back to the roots of disco and house. Receiving support and plays from the likes of Dam Funk, it was an earnest catalogue of cassette demos recorded in the industrial district of West Melbourne. His follow up EP Erskine Falls was popular with the ladies - compact tropical-synth instrumentals that felt just right.

Presenting the weekly radio show Strange Holiday on 3RRR FM in Melbourne has given him a chance to greatly expand his record collection, which currently occupies the broad territory between Disco, World, Library and Balearic sounds. This depth of knowledge about music's past informs his productions, which all give a nod and a wink to the past.

Performing solo and as part of the duo Fox + Sui, Andras has supported artists including James Pants, Andres, Toro Y Moi and DJ Sprinkles. In a digital, cool world full of hectic pace, Andras Fox brings warmth, relaxation and smooth grooves to your ears. It works, even though he uses cassette tapes and dodgy synthesisers, because he tries to do it the right way.

Sadar Bahar (US)

I was born in Newark, NJ during the late 60's. My family relocated in Chicago in the early 70's. I began my DJ pursuit when I was a child. My mom brought me a set of Technique turntables, and the rest is history. I knew at a very early age that I was destined to pursue a career doing what I loved, creating unique sounds of muzik. Muzik has always been my passion. I always hung around the older "old school" crowd who played house. They would play the game, “What you know about this?" They really influenced my interest and increased my desire to learn more about the unique sound of deep, deep house muzik. Later on some of these same individuals would tell me, "Man, your sounds are too deep for me". I began my DJ career in the early 80's playing house, deep house and rare disco exclusively. During this time Chicago was filled with DJs who played house and disco sounds. However, I chose a different direction, playing rare, hard- to- find grooves.

When some of the best-known, popular DJs whom I admired referred to me as a serious deep house muzik collector, a monster was born. All I wanted to do was visit different record stores. I developed a unquenchable desire to create one of the best collections ever. For many years, I spent most of my time in record shops seeking vintage deep house sounds. I soon realized that while I was out searching for the deepest house muzik, people had practically stopped playing muzik, and instead they were playing beat tracks only. Yet they were referring to these tracks as house songs. This was not "original" house muzik! I then retreated even deeper into house muzik. My partners and I began developing our own unique sound, known as SOUL IN THE HOLE muzik. We sought out the deepest hot stuff available and found out that there was so much untapped muzik. Our search practically took over our lives. Yet, it was a great investment, because our unique collection has given us dominance. We have stayed true to the game of spinning, and avoided the tracks and techno/electronics. For us, it's strictly vinyl and vinyl only.

I thank God for the opportunity to travel the world and share and learn more about this muzik that I love. Muzik lovers are the same all over the world. In many of the countries I have visited there were often language barriers, however, once the muzik began to play, we were able to communicate through our muzik. Muzik really is the universal language.

Ariane

Ariane, previously known as Perfect Snatch, is a dance-floor miracle. Sharp of mind, wit and wardrobe, her style behind the decks is at once distinguishably focused and exceptionally eclectic, encompassing all spectrums of the party realm.

After gaining a reputation and travelling around the country during her Gay Bash, Health Club and Shameless days, Ariane now has residences at some of Sydney's best venues, including Ching-A-Lings, Good God and Flinders. Whether she's playing past-era oddities or dance-hit sureties, spinning records to the fash pack at Armani, Adidas and Ksubi or pleasing the crowds at festivals like Splendour, Big Day Out and Playground Weekender, Ariane is always appropriate (or appropriately inappropriate). True versatility is a rarity these days, but equipped with an enviable musical knowledge and endearing charisma, Ariane's sound and stage presence lends itself equally to Mardi Gras, the Sydney Festival, supporting the likes of Horse Meat Disco, and playing Lil Wayne/Eminem after parties (true story).

A former host of Arvos and Sunsets on FBi Radio and currently the Deputy Editor at Oyster magazine, Ariane's got the underground, the overground and everything in-between covered. Her sets will grab you by the hips, invite you to dance, and dazzle. Ariane is one box of magic tricks that will leave you wondering what just happened, and maybe just a little bit shocked that you've never had so much fun.
