The National Art School is a significant Australian visual arts education institution with origins that can be traced back to 1833. Based in the historic walls of the old Darlinghurst Gaol in the heart of Sydney, the site has seen an extraordinary history from a place of abject misery to the home of one of Australia’s most prestigious arts institutes.

The National Art School offers a select number of full time programs; Bachelor of Fine Art, Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) and Master of Fine Art, and for the community, a comprehensive range of part-time and intensive short courses. It has a rich tradition of artistic practice and well-renowned alumni, nurturing generations of artists who contribute significantly to Australian and international culture.

In addition to its education programs, the N.A.S. Gallery presents various engaging and thought provoking exhibitions, events and publications, attracting thousands of visitors each year to experience the vitality of the visual arts. The National Art School’s historic venues, including the Cell Block Theatre and The Chapel, are also available for hire for commercial events, theatrical productions and private and public functions.

About

Astral People, in conjunction with V Movement, are proud to announce the return of Summer Dance, a series of outdoor parties in the heart of Sydney.  In amongst the lush surrounds of The National Art School, the founders of OutsideIn Festival will again host four outdoor Sunday sessions running through January to March.

Renowned for delivering exceptionally curated line-ups, Sydney-based artist management and touring company Astral People have hand-picked an impressive line-up of international and local house, techno and electronic talents, sure to deliver the perfect selection of blissful Sunday summer beats.

Now in its second year, the Astral People and National Art School boutique collaboration is expanding in both profile and experience. Each event will once again see DJs take to the stage for a series of extended outdoor summer sets, but this year is set to discover an entirely new realm of the National Art School.

Kicking off this year’s series is UK house maestro Julio Bashmore, followed by the multifaceted musical institution that is George Evelyn, aka Nightmares On Wax, and the remarkably diverse DJ, producer and vinyl collector Hun Choi (aka Hunee).

Summer Dance’s first-rate international contingent continues with deep house aficionado and founder of Parisian label ‘My Love is Underground’ Jeremy Underground, Belgian tastemaker and eclectic mixmaster Lefto, UK’s hypnotic house DJ and Producer Mark E, one of Chicago’s top DJs specialising in rare, hard-to-find grooves Sadar Bahar and German drum machine savant and L.I.E.S. cohort Florian Kupfer.

Local heroes sporting day-to-night couture and compositions, and rounding off the on-point line-up, include Touch Sensitive, András, Mike Who, Lovebombs, Adi Toohey, Ariane,
Andy Garvey and EK Collective.

The dynamic offering of artists promises to deliver sublime summer grooves surrounded by the historic walls of the old Darlinghurst goal. With rustic sandstone buildings, lush green grass and age-old trees, there’s no venue more fitting for the ultimate Sunday session. Showcasing the finest selectors from around the globe, Summer Dance returns in 2016 as the most unique music experience that Sydney has to offer and is sure to be the hottest ticket in town this summer.
